WAGS
West-Midlands Area Gynae SupportWAGS - West Midlands Area Gynaecological Support Group launched in October 2024 and runs monthly here at the Long Knowle Community Hub. The group is open to anyone who has received a gynaecological cancer diagnosis. It is run by the Genealogical Team at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust and is self-funded, raising money via monthly bake sales and donations.
The group was set up as a social gathering for anyone who has been or who is going through a gynaecology cancer journey. It provides a space for people to talk, listen and learn in a relaxed and supportive environment. The group does many activities including Arts & Crafts and Tai Chi sessions.
Janice, Retired Teacher from WolverhamptonI went to the doctor's as I had noticed something wasn't quite right with my body. I had a tiny bit of red discharge and I knew this wasn't normal for me. I would urge anyone who has concerns or notices something is wrong to go and see the GP as soon as possible which I did. I was referred to New Cross Hospital and diagnosed with endometrial cancer. The staff who I met along my journey were all incredible. They made the process less daunting. I felt so low and alone so to have the support of the staff was really important. I was also lucy enough to join the most fantastic support group. I can't even put into words how much they have helped me on my journey, It was a lifeline and helped a lot of us. Everyone is so lovely and I look forward to it each month. I would recommend it to anyone who is going through a cancer diagnosis treatment. Everyone has a story to share and it can really help people going through treatment as we can all share our stories or just listen.
