The community centre has been a cornerstone for residents in the mid-1950s, offering spaces for events, meetings, and social gatherings. In the early 2010s, Wolverhampton City Council initiated a city-wide plan to modernize and consolidate community services, leading to the transformation of existing centres into multi-purpose community hubs. This initiative aimed to bring together library, youth, and community services under one roof to enhance accessibility and cost-effectiveness.

In September 2013, extensive renovation work commenced on the existing library and community centre building at Wood End Road. The refurbishment included creating an open-plan layout, repairing the flooring, ceiling, and roof, installing a new kitchen, and replacing the ageing heating system. These improvements were designed to extend the building's usability for at least another 20 years.

Local residents played a significant role in shaping the new hub. Members of the Long Knowle Community Association were instrumental in the planning and design process, ensuring the facility met the community's needs. Vice Chair Tony Bladon expressed gratitude to the contractors and the city council for the successful refurbishment, highlighting the enhanced facilities and the building's extended lifespan.

The Long Knowle Community Hub officially opened its doors on 8 April 2014. Councillor Elias Mattu, Wolverhampton City Council's Cabinet Member for Leisure and Communities at the time, officiated the opening ceremony. The hub now offers a range of services, including library facilities, community and youth services, and information services, all housed within the modernized building.

Today, the Long Knowle Community Hub continues to serve as a vibrant centre for the local community. It hosts various groups and activities such as karate, keep fit, yoga, dance, bingo, a youth club, under-5s playgroup, and support groups for diabetes and cancer counselling. The centre also collaborates with organizations like the Beacon Centre for the Visually Impaired and the Park Children's Centre for mother and toddler groups.
